Obstetrics and Gynecology is an academic discipline containing
systematized scientific knowledge about the course of physiological and pathological
processes occurring in the body of a woman, due to its anatomophysiological characteristics, as well as conception, pregnancy, childbirth and
the postpartum period; methods of diagnosis, treatment, prevention of complications
pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum period, diseases of the fetus and newborn,
as well as diseases of the organs of the reproductive system of women in various
age periods.
Obstetrics is the field of study concentrated on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period.

Obstetrics and gynecology, along with internal medicine and surgery, are a fundamental branch of clinical medicine. Competencies in this field are mandatory for a graduate of a higher medical school. A qualified doctor should know the clinical and physiological characteristics of the female body in different age periods, be able to carry out not only therapeutic and diagnostic, but also preventive measures. In addition, a doctor of any specialty should know the clinical manifestations, principles of diagnosis and treatment of the most common obstetric and gynecological pathology in order to provide emergency care.

The purpose of the discipline: formation of knowledge, skills and abilities in the diagnosis and management of pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period, diagnosis, medical care and prevention of basic obstetric and gynecological pathology.
